250 mile Bike Club: |
Boutilier Award: |
| This club's members have all biked 150 miles or more during one
session at camp. Until recently only the Cape & Island Bikers
(formerly the Overnight Bikers) achieved this goal, but now some of
the more determined Day Biking units have worked very hard and gone
the extra mile to get onto the board. |
One of the hardest boards to get on, the 250 mile bike club is made
up of those bikers who have biked 250 miles or more in one session
at camp. As the bikers got more determined and intense, biking 150
miles in two weeks was no longer enough of a challenge and they pushed
themselves until they could go 250 and make a new board to put in
the dining hall.
|
Named after the woman who elevated the biking program to a new level,
this award is given to bikers who have shown a great deal of commitment
and determination to the biking program and who have contributed to
its enhancement. The award is given only when merited, not on a yearly
basis.

Iron Bears: |
No Match Fire Club: |
| The front of this board displays the route taken by those brave
enough to attempt to canoe from camp to the sea, while the back displays
the names of those who have completed the journey. The day-long trip
takes the canoers through swamps, fish ladders, salt marshes, and
eventually right into the waves. |
Iron Bears are those brave souls that wake up early every morning
and alternate between swimming and running before breakfast. Although
there is no board for Iron Bears they have all received certificates
and know who they are. |
This club is made up of every camper and counselor that has lit
a fire without using a match. |

| One Match Fire Club: |
One Try Mooring Club: |
Polar Bears: |
| This club is made up of every camper and counselor that has lit
a campfire with just one match. The match can be used to light multiple
parts of the wood frame or bramble, but once the match goes out no
more can be used and the fire has to stay lit for a significant period
of time. |
The board for this club is still displayed in the dining hall though
the club itself has not existed for a few years. The members of the
club were all able to skipper to a mooring correctly and catch it
on the first try and did this 3 times during one session and with
no help from a counselor. |
These girls wake up early every morning to go down to the beach
and swim, sing, grr, and wake up the rest of camp (and sometimes Long
Pond). As there are too many girls in the Polar Bear Swim Club to
count there is no board for them, but they do receive a certificate
for each session that they are a part of the club. |

FYC Board of Skippers: |
| Named after an FYC veteran, this award is given to those sailors
that show a lot of determination and simply won't give up during the
LPI. This award is given only when merited, not on a yearly basis.
|
These girls wake up early every morning to go running before breakfast.
They have also been known to sing while on the running path. There
is no board for the Running Bears Club, as there are too many of them
to fit. They do, however, receive certificates on the final night
of camp. |
This board lists all those girls that have earned the rating of
Skipper, the highest sailing rating there is at Favorite. The rating
is only given out when merited.
****For those of you who have been on a scavenger hunt and not been
able to find out what is on the back of the Skipper board, here is
the answer: the FYC board of Racing Skippers. The Racing Skipper rating
has not been given out in almost 20 years and there is no record on
camp of what was required for the rating. It seems (based on the dates
that people received the rating in relation to when they received their
Skipper) that it was a higher rating than Skipper, but that is all
I know...**** |
